The NOUS Urban Sustainability and Innovation Hub is a collaborative initiative founded by the Municipality of Strovolos, the University of Cyprus, and The Cyprus Institute, under the auspices of the EU-funded U‑SOLVE programme. Located in the heart of Strovolos, the Hub serves as a living lab for sustainable urban development and an incubator for innovation that connects citizens, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers.

The name “NOUS” comes from the Greek word for “mind” and reflects the Hub’s identity as a knowledge center — a physical and digital platform for ideas, data, experimentation, and community engagement.

Located at Archbishop Kyprianou Street 78, Strovolos, NOUS was created to:

• Address pressing environmental and social challenges in urban settings.
• Support sustainable entrepreneurship.
• Enable citizen participation in designing the future of their city.
• Promote transdisciplinary collaboration across academia, business, and civil society.

 

Strategy & Partners

The NOUS Hub is founded on seven strategic pillars that support its long-term vision and its implementation roadmap:

1. Stakeholder Engagement
   Facilitating collaboration between citizens, researchers, businesses, and public institutions.
2. Governance & Operations
   Ensuring transparent, inclusive, and efficient management of the Hub.
3. Environmental Sustainability
   Integrating circular economy, climate action, and low-carbon innovation.
4. Economic Development
   Supporting green entrepreneurship, local job creation, and business incubation.
5. Innovation & Technology
   Promoting digital solutions and experimentation for urban challenges.
6. Communication Strategy
   Raising awareness and building a sustainability culture within the community.
7. Networking & Outreach
   Linking Strovolos to regional and Mediterranean-wide sustainability networks.

These pillars align with 12 strategic objectives designed to be met by 2030, ranging from emissions reduction to citizen empowerment, and inclusive growth.
